EquipmentShare, an integrated equipment rental and equipment asset management company, announced today the opening of a new, state-of-the-art Technology Development Center (TDC) at its Columbia headquarters. The company commemorated the expansion and 10-year anniversary with a ribbon cutting ceremony attended by Governor Mike Kehoe, Director Michelle Hataway, and various community partner organizations.
“We’re pleased to see a Missouri-made innovator like EquipmentShare continuing to invest and create jobs in Columbia,” said Governor Mike Kehoe. “This company’s history of success shows what can be achieved through bold ideas, hard work, and commitment to community. We congratulate EquipmentShare on reaching this milestone and look forward to its ongoing growth.”
The opening of EquipmentShare’s Technology Development Center marks a major milestone in the company’s 10-year history. Located adjacent to the company’s main campus building on Bull Run Drive, the modern facility brings together key innovation teams - including Research Development, Engineering, and Learning Development - focused on designing next-generation technology and training a nationwide workforce. The center features a high-tech Uptime Center, an operations hub where teams monitor EquipmentShare’s fleet in real time to reduce downtime and enhance performance.
The facility also offers collaborative spaces for prototyping, technology incubation, and cross-functional innovation, uniting software, hardware, and operational teams under one roof to support continued growth and transformation of the construction industry. Jobs created through TDC are part of the company’s campus expansion first announced in November 2022. In total, EquipmentShare expects to create more than 500 high-paying jobs along with an investment of nearly $100 million.
“EquipmentShare was founded at Startup Weekend here in Columbia 10 years ago with the mission to transform the construction industry through technology,” said Jabbok Schlacks, CEO and co-founder of EquipmentShare. “This new Technology Development Center is proof of how far we’ve come - but it’s also just the beginning. Columbia has always been our home, and we’re proud to continue investing in the place and people who helped launch our journey.”
EquipmentShare helps contractors work smarter with solutions that optimize job sites - including cloud-based tools, tracking hardware, machinery rentals, and more. Since beginning in Columbia in 2015, the company has grown in Missouri and beyond, with a total of more than 6,500 employees and 300 locations nationwide. EquipmentShare’s Missouri locations include Columbia, St. Louis, Eldon, Kansas City, Joplin, Springfield, Cape Girardeau, Lebanon, and Moberly.
“We’re grateful that this cutting-edge company, now a nationally recognized enterprise, is deepening its dedication to the community where it began,” said Michelle Hataway, Director of the Department of Economic Development. “EquipmentShare’s incredible success story is an inspiring example of our mission, helping Missourians prosper, brought to life.”
DED’s support for EquipmentShare began in 2019 when the company established its headquarters and created 150 new jobs. A significant expansion followed in 2022 with the creation of more than 500 additional jobs. Since then, EquipmentShare opened the industrial and upfitting center in Moberly, which included a more than $46 million investment and 151 new jobs.
EquipmentShare’s ongoing growth in the state, including the headquarters expansion, has been supported through the state’s Missouri Works program, a tool that helps companies expand and retain workers by providing access to capital through withholdings or tax credits for job creation. The company’s Columbia and Moberly locations are receiving assistance from Missouri One Start, a division of the Department of Economic Development. Missouri One Start assists eligible businesses with their recruitment and training needs.
