The Animal Neurology Center establishes in Creve Coeur, investing $3.5 million and creating 20 new jobs

The Animal Neurology Center, a leading specialty hospital focused on treating brain and spinal disorders in pets, announced today the opening of its new state-of-the-art facility in Creve Coeur. With a $3.5 million investment, the 7,200-square-foot center provides animal care, facilitates educational opportunities for the profession, and fosters strategic partnerships with biotechnology leaders. The expansion also brings 20 new jobs to the local community and is positioned to host 600 visiting students and veterinarians annually.

“We’re pleased to see an innovative employer like The Animal Neurology Center establishing and creating jobs in the St. Louis area,” said Governor Mike Kehoe. “This company’s success is a testament to our state’s ability to support entrepreneurs and innovators. We congratulate The Animal Neurology Center on its opening as it joins a long list of world-class, Missouri-made employers.”

The Animal Neurology Center was founded by Dr. Fred Wininger, who returned to his St. Louis roots to establish a national hub for veterinary neurology and neurosurgery. Driven by a passion to deliver world-class care and advance the field through innovation, Dr. Wininger’s vision is to create a center of excellence in research, education, and clinical practice. The center celebrated its grand opening in January 2025 and began treating complex cases in December 2024, positioning itself at the forefront of veterinary neurology.

“Our hospital is dedicated exclusively to diseases of the brain and spine, which allows us to focus intensely on our area of specialized expertise,” said Dr. Fred Wininger, Founder and Owner of The Animal Neurology Center. “But we are more than just a hospital. While providing compassionate care and offering clear communication and support for our clients are at the heart of what we do, our mission is also driven by a commitment to teaching the next generation of veterinary professionals. We have allied ourselves with companies that traditionally focus on human medical care. Companies like Siemens Healthineers, Karl Storz Endoscopy, and Zoetis recognize the expectation that pet parents want medical capabilities commensurate with what they would receive themselves. They have recognized the ANC as a center of excellence and an opportunity to advance human and veterinary medicine together.”

The Animal Neurology Center is built on three foundational pillars: compassionate care, education, and industry collaboration. First and foremost, the center is committed to providing empathetic care that prioritizes the well-being of pets and their families, offering tailored treatment options to meet each animal’s unique needs. In addition to its clinical services, the center advances veterinary knowledge by offering clinical rotations for students, hosting seminars for practitioners, and running a residency program in partnership with the University of Missouri. Finally, the center works closely with industry leaders to ensure the use of cutting-edge technology and drive continuous innovation in veterinary care.

“The Animal Neurology Center’s opening in Creve Coeur is an inspiring example of our mission, helping Missourians prosper, put into action,” said Michelle Hataway, Director of the Department of Economic Development. “We’re proud to support The Animal Neurology Center as it creates exciting new opportunities in the St. Louis region.”

New jobs added as part of The Animal Neurology Center’s new location will pay an average wage well above the county average.

For its establishment, The Animal Neurology Center will benefit from the Missouri Works program, a tool that helps companies expand and retain workers by providing access to capital through withholdings or tax credits for job creation.
